Smart Packaging for Modular Grow Lights

Hortilux and AP, both part of Dool Industries, specialise in grow light solutions and electrical engineering. Hortilux focuses on innovative systems for greenhouse horticulture and indoor farming, while AP handles assembly and panel construction. Together, they face a clear challenge: how to design packaging that protects modular LED fixtures, accommodates four different lengths, and is both sustainable and practical?
From Challenge to Solution
Following a detailed inventory of requirements, our packaging engineers got to work. The result is a custom-made packaging solution that perfectly meets the needs of Hortilux and AP. “It was important to find a solution that protects the products during transport while remaining economical and practical,” explains Kristel Meijer from Hortilux. The packaging secures each fixture in an individual compartment and allows for efficient stacking on a Euro pallet. The simple assembly saves time, while the smart design minimises material usage.
Reliability Tested in Practice
At the Topa Institute, we combine packaging development with practical testing. We simulate realistic transport conditions to ensure the stability and protection of the packaging. “The collaboration runs smoothly, and any concerns about stability were eliminated with the test results,” says Elsbeth Van Klink from AP. This thorough approach enables Hortilux and AP to ship their products worldwide with confidence.

Sustainability at the Heart of the Design
Hortilux and AP aim not only to protect their products but also to reduce their environmental impact. The packaging is primarily made from recyclable cardboard, aligning with their sustainability goals. “You take into account materials that are both functional and less harmful to the environment,” notes the client. By minimising plastic use and opting for reusable materials, the solution reduces waste and energy consumption in the logistics process.
A Collaboration That Works
A multidisciplinary approach and a focus on practical solutions make all the difference. “Your expertise and quick response times give us peace of mind when choosing your services,” says Hortilux. This packaging solution proves that efficiency and sustainability can go hand in hand without compromising quality.
